Thanks Dad.
Ice Fishing. Yes, the activity of ice fishing over remote lakes in New England, and our dad.
First, came the pulling of that heavy sled topped with hockey gear, lunch food galore, and a wide variety of drinks. After Dad was satisfied as to where we would ultimately set up our ice playground, and camp the real fun began. Our multiple fishing holes were manually drilled, hooks baited, and flags placed. The fire-pit was carved into place kindling gathered from the shorelines and lit. Once the coals became hot enough to boil or grill on, Dad would open the two old Maxwell House Coffee tin cans. One with flavorful wood chips, and the other with prepped veggies for any fish caught.
So how does Bergeron’s Smoke Cans come into play? Dating back to the 1970’s is how, hence the #71 and #75 in our logo. Both are the years his two boys were born. Dad would often cook up the daily catch directly on the ice in our carved-out fire-pit. As a former Army Veteran who served in the Vietnam War, he was both intuitive, and resourceful.
So once the smoke rose onto the fresh caught fish it was apparent his idea casted up, and the smell drifted out onto the lake winds. Quite often nearby fishermen would stroll over to see our catches and perhaps a little like hungry wolves, lol. So, a maple sweet bourbon smoked flavored trout, and grilled veggies was now being served!
Fond memories of this can resonate for years, and Dad will always be missed. Hopefully you’ll create experiences in nature to be remembered by those younger than ourselves too.
